« New authors CityLit panel: Eric D. Goodman | Main | The Sun's Sragow honored »

A toast to good books!

guinnessA reminder: Tomorrow at 4:30, as the CityLit Festival winds down, we'll have the 1st Annual Read Street Meetup at Mick O'Shea's Pub, 328 N. Charles Street.

We'll toast our city's rich literary heritage, including the Baltimore woman who published the seminal work of a famous Irish author. Leave a comment with the name of the woman, the author and his work, and I'll buy you a Guinness.

If you can't make the meetup, say hello to me and Nancy during the festival. Nancy's moderating a panel on "First Books, New Authors" from 1:30 to 3 in the Office of School & Student Services; I'm moderating a panel on "What's Becoming of Our Book Culture?" from 1:30 to 2:30 in the Fine Arts Department.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Man, I still can't decide which panel I want to go to! But the good news is that I WILL be joining you at Mick O'Sheas after all. :)

Heather, that's great. Bring the whole book club -- I know it's a group that likes to have fun!

I hope we at LT were at least somewhat useful in your preparations for your discussion of the book culture.

Geneg, absolutely. Though I'm still a newbie at LT, I've found the Literary Snobs group to be a great place for discussions. Occasionally, I'll post some of the LT comments here -- and vice versa.

I am so jealous of those lucky ducks attending the celebration @ Mick O Shea's & the festival ={.
Both panels sound awesome.
Best of Luck!!!
Have Fun!!!

Yes, Diane, I'm jealous too.

Now down to business. Sylvia Beach published James Joyce's Ulysses.

I can't be in Baltimore tomorrow to collect my prize, so I'll ask for something else instead. Dave, I want you and Nancy (once you finish tomorrow's program) to think about going live with your NEXT "performance." You could do a live webcast (a book chat) from Baltimore which could be shown in lots of libraries in different areas of the country. People watching could blog live with questions and comments. Hey, those of us outside of Baltimore want to have fun too! You have a number of bloggers from different areas of the country who would be willing, I'm sure, to arrange the setup (and have a book blogging party) in their local libraries. I'd be glad to do it here in Westchester, NY.

You do say, "A blog for a community of readers in Baltimore and beyond."

Have a great time tomorrow; and then afterwards, think about us in the "beyond."

Gail, that's a great idea. It would be fun to create a network of book bloggers and book lovers.

Sorry you and Diane can't be here tomorrow.

Diane - I'm planning to take a few video clips at the panels tomorrow and I'll be posting them on my blog later in the week. I know it isn't the same as a live feed but it's the best I can do for now. :)

I do have a few videos of Dave, Nancy and I from our panel at the last Baltimore Book Festival here if you just want to see and hear what Dave and Nancy sound like.

- Heather

He belongs to a book club with a Jewish theme.
