New releases -- John Lennon and Cesar Millan

Out Tuesday:

John Lennon: The Life by Phillip Norman (Ecco, $34.95). Author and journalist Norman’s biography draws on previously unknown sources, unpublished letters and unprecedented access to all the key figures.

A Member of the Family: Cesar Millan’s Guide to a Lifetime of Fulfillment with Your Dog by Cesar Millan and Melissa Jo Peltier (Harmony, $25.95). The Dog Whisperer offers advice for integrating your canine companion into your household.

A Most Wanted Man by John le Carre (Scribner, $28). A half-starved young Russian man in a long black overcoat is smuggled into Hamburg in the dead of night. He has an improbable amount of cash secreted in a purse around his neck. He is a devout Muslim. Or is he?

The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell (Riverhead, $25.95). Essayist and public radio regular Vowell revisits America’s Puritan roots in this witty exploration of the ways in which our country’s present predicaments are inextricably tied to its past.

Grace by Richard Paul Evans (Simon & Schuster, $19.95). A grandfather’s childhood memories are stirred while reading a Christmas story to his grandchildren.

Tales from the Dad Side by Steve Doocy (Morrow, $25.95). Stories of what it’s like to be a dad and a son, from a child’s first day of kindergarten to the awkward sex talk and right up to the day the always-practical dad tries to pay for college with bonus miles.

Called Out of Darkness by Anne Rice (Knopf, $24). Rice tells the story of the spiritual transformation that produced a complete change in her literary goals.

Michelle: A Biography by Liza Mundy (Simon & Schuster, $25). Washington Post writer Mundy writes about the woman Barack Obama calls "the boss" — his wife.

Lulu in Marrakech by Diane Johnson (Dutton, $25.95). Lulu Sawyer arrives in Marrakech, Morocco, hoping to rekindle her romance with a worldly Englishman. It’s the perfect cover for her assignment with the CIA.

About the bloggers
While she always preferred The Hardy Boys to Nancy Drew, Nancy Knight grew up reading nearly everything she could get her hands on, including a probably unhealthy amount of R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike, with the obligatory Jane Austen thrown in. She'll still read just about anything you put in front of her, especially the funny or weird. She lives in the city with her books, cat and drum set.

Dave Rosenthal came to The Baltimore Sun as a business reporter in 1987 and now is an assistant managing editor and Sunday editor. He reads a wide range of books (but never as many as he'd like), usually alternating between non-fiction and fiction. Some all-time favorites: A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole; Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupery; and anything by Calvin Trillin or John McPhee. He belongs to a book club with a Jewish theme.
