In search of a good laugh

xkcd.jpg

So I know I've already mentioned my love of xkcd, but I thought it would be appropriate to revisit my favorite Webcomic this week, and then ask all my favorite readers for a favor.

Give me more! I need more distraction in my life, and I'm always up for a good laugh. So if there's a great Webcomic that you want to share, hit me!

In return, you'll receive a free graphic novel. I've got about eight of them here, so comment while supplies last! Titles include Krazy: The Delierious World of Anime + Comics + Video Games + Art; Kyle Baker's Nat Turner and Gareth Hinds' The Merchant of Venice.

Yeah, that's right, Shakespeare.

It's not just that I'm a sucker for free books (I am); I also want to share this with the world. If I had to choose a favorite webcomic other than xkcd, I would choose The Perry Bible Fellowship [http://pbfcomics.com], written by Nicholas Gurewitch. Just click the random link and bask in the oddness that is PBF.

Dinosaur Comic!

Perry Bible Fellowship can be hysterically funny, but unfortunately it's on a kind of hiatus right now, with no regular update schedule.

A webcomic that I've really gotten to enjoy recently is Partially Clips (http://www.partiallyclips.com). It's got a similar mindset to PBF in that the humor is a little dark and not always for the kids.

Free books?!

My favorite webcomics are:

"Fetus-X" by Eric Millikin which is smart and beautiful and scary and unlike anything else -- http://www.fetusx.com/

"A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible" which also has fantastic art put hasn't updated in forever -- http://www.alessonislearned.com/

Penny Arcade! I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it.

Try www.unshelved.com, a web comic about the world of libraries.

About the blogger
Dave Rosenthal came to The Baltimore Sun as a business reporter in 1987 and now is the Maryland Editor. He reads a wide range of books (but never as many as he'd like), usually alternating between non-fiction and fiction. Some all-time favorites: A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole; Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupery; and anything by Calvin Trillin or John McPhee. He belongs to a book club with a Jewish theme.
