Tom Clancy's new condos, by the numbers

Novelist Tom Clancy, who spent an eye-popping $12.6 million last fall to buy three condos at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Baltimore, has taken over the entire penthouse level in his building by purchasing three more.

How much space are we talking about? Well, here are some things that could fit in Clancy's 17,000-square-foot digs:

--Seven average new single-family houses

--A fire station with 12 trucks

--An Olympic-sized swimming pool with enough space left over for a six-bedroom spread

--The giant LED billboard that wraps around a Times Square tower

--An arena-league football field

--A Las Vegas nightclub

--More than 100 of this guy's house

I wonder how much time a place like Clancy's would take to clean.

Perhaps they will sell him the entire overpriced development.

That's amazine that in this challenging economy, there are still people out there buying the entire floor of buildings for their personal living space.

He must have a big dog.

He has only copyright law to thank. A free market would not use the force of government to achieve the ownership of ideas which is anti-capitalist, anti-free market, traces back to mercantilism, and is inconsistent with natural law.

Perhaps the Cafe Hon lady aspires to ride her intellectual property law abuse to this grandeur.

And he is getting a tax break thanks to extension of Bush tax cuts....Must be nice to be rich in this country. You prey off of people actually doing work, brainwash them into taking "loans" from you and then even if you fail in that "business"....you get a re-do. I hear the Republicans now want to"balance the budget"..where were these blowhards when the governmnet was "spending" to save them!! What a joke.

Perhaps, just perhaps Josh, Mr. Clancy has talent to thank. Plain and simple.

Good for him that's great as he sold a lot of books. I would love to know what he pays monthly as part of the association fee? :)

I agree Dr. J. Good for him and I have been a long time fan of his. I would love to take a tour of his place as well as the other waterfront penthouses around town.

Mr. Clancy could have chosen to spend his money on real estate anywhere in the world yet he chose Baltimore. He is a Baltimore native whose books always seem to center around the City (and Johns Hopkins too). Between his investment in the condo and continued support of the Orioles, how much more could you ask someone to show his pride and support of his hometown..
