Housing scams aren't just about foreclosure

Because so many homeowners have been scammed out of money or even their home in a bid to avoid foreclosure, it's easy to forget that tenants can be targets of con artists, too.

The Maryland Attorney General's office says about 500 people were allegedly scammed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a pyramid scheme that included promises of a year's free rent in exchange for upfront payments toward a supposed business venture.

Liz Kay and Gus Sentementes have the full story here.

It's tough to scam an honest man. Every one of these "victims" had within them the seed of larceny.

Never will I be able to understand these ridiculous people who fall for such utter junk that hucksters peddle to them.

It is stupidity that keeps these scam artists in business, and there's always a fool that would walk right in because they want something for nothing or next to nothing with little effort or no effort. HELLO.

Why don't you just go right over to the money table, write a check that drains your entire life savings and save yourself some time. It's all the same.

I will disagree with the post that all the "victims" had the seed of larceny. I would instead replace "larceny" with "greed."

Sorry, but the "I was desperate" excuse is old, decrepit and out of style now. USE YOUR BRAIN. How desperate are you NOW?
