Deter workplace lunch thieves with fake mold!

Think of The sells a Glad-style baggie with fake mold on the plastic so it looks like your sandwich inside is moldy. It's getting attention in the blogosphere as an anti-sandwich-theft device. However, I suspect workplace lunch larceny is exaggerated. People wouldn't steal the sustenance of their colleagues, would they?

But what if someone throws it out b/c it looks moldy?! stolen or thrown out - lose/lose either way!

This sounds like a good idea until someone throws your moldy lunch out every day.

So what happens when the workplace "do gooder" throws the abandoned moldy sandwich away? I guess it will be fast food that day, huh?

Seems to me this would increase the chances of losing your lunch at work by way of someone throwing out what appears to be an abandoned, moldy sandwich

My workplace cleans the fridge out only every Friday, so maybe this would work only if you managed to eat your sandwich before Friday. And what if your lunch isn't a sandwich? Do they make these in Tupperware lids?

This whole story reminds me, as a good Baltimorean, of the episode of Homicide where, through Brodie's diligent filming, we finally discover who the lunchroon bandit is at the precinct: Gaffney. We all thought he was a slimebag; there was the proof.

Here's what you do: put the 'moldy' sandwhich in a brown paper bag.

That way, when some creep looks in the brown bag ready to lift the sandwhich, they put it right back in the lunchbag.

Oh, it happens - we even had someone go so far as to take a bite out of a sandwich, not find it to their taste and return it to the lunch bag to be found by the owner.

If I saw that in my work fridge, or any fridge I had a vested interest in I'd throw it away. So it may not get stolen but it could get tossed.

One time I got my perfectly-folded lunch bag out of the office fridge. It contained: empty soda can, empty sandwich bag, Snickers wrapper, used napkin.

I wish I had this when I started working my first professional job. Someone stole my lunch and my next lunch I put a really nasty note in it. I don't even remember what I said but my mother found it and was horrified. LOL I figured only the lunch thief would be in my bag reading it. Anyway, I have been in the workforce 20 years and I bring a soft side cooler with an ice pack in it and keep it at my desk with me. Stops thieves and the office do gooders who think your full salad dressing bottle with an expiration date a year away is trash!

GMC has it right. If you feel the need to resort to 'moldy' sandwich baggies you have a problem that disquise won't help. Who wants anyone snooping and scoping out their lunch anyway? Not to mention, eating it? Plus with all the attention to germs and disease lately, I'm amazed anyone still feels confident stashing lunches in a communal refrig. Get a lunch bag and ice pack....

do what I do- bring a cooler and hide it under your desk for lunch storage

I once left a kitty salmon sandwich on white with lettuce for a lunch thief. I'd have loved to see their face when the took the first bite
