Every BGE home gets credit -- even if you switched
I get questions about this all the time, so now that EDF Group and Constellation have agreed to complete their deal and rebate $100 to Baltimore Gas & Electric customers, it seems a good time to repeat: EVERY BGE household gets the $100 credit, even if you have switched like me to buying electricity from Washington Gas Energy Services or somebody else. The $100 credit will be applied to the distribution charge on your BGE bill. You always pay BGE a distribution charge; BGE is your electricity delivery company no matter who your supplier is.
Dominion Retail is offering a new deal to BGE customers that is cheaper than BGE's standard charge for households. (I'll have more on this later.) So don't resist switching to Dominion Retail or anybody else because you fear it would jeopardize the $100 credit that the Public Service Commission made Constellation provide as part of the EDF deal. If you're a residential customer and you're in the BGE delivery zone (essentially Baltimore and its suburbs), you get the credit.
UPDATE: Under the PSC requirements BGE has to give the credit by March 30. But it could be earlier.

Wow! $100!!! How incredible. Glad they're looking out for us.
Hate to make myself a single-issue voter, but any politician touting this "credit" as a job well done will be disqualified from my consideration.

Keep my $100, Use it to build the electric car charging infrastructure we will need in the near future. Nuclear power does not need imported oil and produces no green house gasses. O'Malley is short sighted

I'm not complaining about the $100 rebate in light of the budget breaking electric charges last winter. But I'd rather see BGE waive the 6% charge they apply for their annual averaging program. Bad enough that they charge the 2nd highest electric rate in the country, then charge an extra percentage to make it affordable! Hurry up renewables!!!

Any idea when this is going to occur?

BMOC -- My colleague Hanah CHo says they have to give people the credit by March 30. But it could happen sooner.

How does this work for condominiums with shared electric?
The condo receives $100, even though there are 50 or 100 units?

Just received an offer in the mail from Dominion Retail for 10.37 cents per kWh guaranteed through 12/31/2010. Anything I should be careful of before switching.
