Stay in BGE's Peak Rewards plan & switch suppliers

The blog recommends dumping BGE's standard electricity product, which will hit 12.7 cents per kilowatt hour this summer, not counting delivery charges, for Washington Gas Energy Services' deal at 10.8 cents. Readers want to know: If I switch to WGES or another alternative supplier, will BGE kick me out of the Peak Rewards program, where I get savings for having a cutoff switch on my air conditioner?

The answer is no. If you're in Peak Rewards, it doesn't matter who your supplier is. Even if you switch to WGES or Commerce Energy or somebody else, Baltimore Gas and Electric will still be your electricity utility, delivering the juice. Peak Rewards is a BGE program.

Thank goodness that you are an advocate for the ratepayers.

PLEASE, please see my post under "Should I dump BGE's standard product" below. If you haven't already had the Peak Rewards switch installed, don't. There is a BGE contractor switch installer out there that doesn't know what he is doing - he caused a short and blown fuse in my 2 year old outdoor unit and our repairman from BGE Home said he's seen several cases of the same negligence. I'm worried that there may be residual problems. It's just not worth saving a few bucks and then having to replace a 5K unit.....And trust me, the Peak Rewards unit at BGE has basically flipped the bird at me-they don't seem to understand why I'm upset!
