Ms. Moore's class at Carver magnet school rocks

Ms. Marian Moore's financial class at George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology (a Towson magnet high school, part of the Baltimore County Public School System) is full of smart cookies. They know the federal debt is $10 trillion. They know the U.S. consumes 25 percent of the world's oil and has much less in reserves. They know taxes at very high levels can suffocate growth. They know why recessions diminish public resources. We argued about the housing mess. We argued about the bailout. We argued about homeowner responsibility vs. business exploitation.

If these are the people who will run the country tomorrow, we're in good hands. The conversation was at a higher level than in many college classes I've addressed. It certainly blew away anything that happens in Congress.

I'm glad to hear Ms. Moore's students can understand fiscal responsibility. It gives me hope for the future.

Ms. Moore's class is the best!

Did you discuss the gross disparity in wealth this country and how CEO wages and benefits contribute to the perception that our country is a haven for greed? What were their solutions? Did you discuss the disenfranchisement of our youth in terms of whether 12 yrs. olds should vote? Did you discuss how the neo conservatives have run the world bank and its roll in the world financial crisis? did you touch upon how the media manipulates disasters to shift vtal public resources to the top 1% of wealth in this country? ie Katrina justifies the use of excess government resources for mansions on the beach built on known flood plains through FEMA. Did you discuss the failures of Reagonomics?ie subsidizing polluters; tax shelters for the wealthy, dismantling the public school system?etc.

Congratulation to the 'fine' work Ms. Moore (Pooh) is doing with "our" youth. It is important that 'students' not only understand basic academics; but the how its application impact our personal and globle community. She is a tremendous asset to the 'educational community'.

Excellent post-Kudo's Jay Hancock! I wish all future voters were taught to be objective and solid thinkers. We surely need thought leaders, and it sounds like Carver is helping produce them!
