The $170 BGE rebate is almost here

You should be seeing Baltimore Gas and Electric's $170 rebate on your home electricity bill in the next few days/weeks. The paper is working on a story. As BGE said in May: "Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG), today announced that residential electric distribution customers with active accounts on Aug. 29, 2008 will receive a one-time credit of $170 on their Sept. 2008 bill..."

My bill usually comes early in the month, around the 7th or so. The cool August weather should have kept kilowatt charges relatively sane for the September bill. The rebate will help even more. When you add up the 1.1 million BGE households, it's a mini, $187 million stimulus package for the Maryland economy.

The credits are already on people's account. I pulled up my BGE account online and my account balance right now is -$170. My september bill hasn't generated as of yet but the credit is alraedy on there.

What if my utility bill isn't $170 in a single month? I've got a small apartment and am reluctant to turn on the air conditioning because it costs so much. Would any credit be carried forward to the next month? Please advise.

I'm sure if your monthly BGE bill is less than $170 they'll credit the balance the following month.

My bill was generated in late August. I just checked online and I have a negative $85 something balance. When combined with the $84 something on the late August bill, it adds up to $170. This confirms that the credit will carry forward if your bill is less than $170.
