Sinclair Broadcast airs dubious anti-Obama ad
Leave it to Baltimore's own Sinclair Broadcast to run the ad tarring Barack Obama for his acquaintance with Bill Ayers, the Weather Underground jerk whose group bombed the Capitol and the Pentagon (with little effect) in the early 1970s. Obama lives in the same neighborhood with the guy, who apparently has rehabilitated himself and is now a professor at the University of Illinois/Chicago.
Ayers had a "meet the candidate" session at his house for Obama in the 1990s when Obama was first running for office. And Obama was on the board with Ayers of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an education-reform group financed by the well-known radical-pinko Walter Annenberg. (Annenberg was the billionaire who founded TV Guide and was Richard Nixon's ambassador to Britain when Ayers was bombing Nixon's Pentagon. Annenberg was also a close friend of Ronald Reagan.) So now Obama is being linked to terrorism.
Obama's people are trying to quash the Ayers ad, which is financed by Harold Simmons, the guy behind the Swift Boat attacks on John Kerry four years ago. They say it violates campaign law. CNN and Fox have refused to run the Ayers ad, according to the Associated Press. But, sez the AP:
But by Monday afternoon, the ad had run about 150 times in local markets in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Michigan, according to Evan Tracey, head of TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, an ad tracking firm.Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said Obama supporters have inundated stations that are airing the ad, many of them owned by Sinclair Communications [sic], with 93,000 e-mails. He called the ad false, despicable and outrageous.
"Other stations that follow Sinclair's lead should expect a similar response from people who don't want the political discourse cheapened with these false, negative attacks," Vietor said.
Sinclair has a history of this, having fanned the Swift Boat flames four years ago. Every candidate has ties to dubious characters. If you're a politician you rub elbows with tens of thousands of people, and some of them turn out to be questionable. You can't fault Obama's ties to Ayers any more than you can fault John McCain's ties to the Rev. John Hagee, the much-criticized megachurch pastor. The left likes to complain that the American news media is a corporate monolith. Sinclair is an outlier, but I don't think that's the kind of diversity liberals have in mind.

Comments
Leave it to the Baltimore Sun to white wash yet another whiff of corruption coming from the past of their candidate of choice. Rather than investigating, the Baltimore Sun has become an apologist for a candidate we hardly know anything about. The Hagee link is ridiculous. There's a difference between launching your political career with a neighbor and rubbing elbows with "tens of thousands of people" like Mr. Hagee.

Sinclair=Fox, Jr. They're more fascist than Fox because, as a little guy, they have to yell louder for attention.

One doesn't try to intimidate people into silence unless they have something to fear and hide. Is Obama embarrassed by his connection to William Ayers? It appears he is as he should be, however instead of trying to hide the truth from the people, maybe Obama would do better to come clean about his association with Ayers.

every single politician whether is congress, the senate , white house knows someone who politically they should not know. Shouldn't we be going after every one of them instead of at election time? Especially when there is such a fear of having the 1st black as president.

The republicans must be idiots if they believe this,Why does john mccain put up with this ,because he has no legitimate cause to stand for,and he is following karl rove thru the sewer that is the republican mantra

1. To this day Ayers and his wife are unrepentant of their terrorist acts and say they should have set off more bombs.
2. Obama and Ayers had a close friendship and working relationship for many years including the political sendoff party.
3. Obama was chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge which gave a largr grant of money to another former Weatherman,
If all that does not make you question Obama's ideology then it should make you question his ability to judge people.

Worse than Sinclair linking Obama to a terrorist is the link to Nixon and Reagan!!! And it appears that Ayers is linked as well!!! Nixon and Reagan must have been terrorists!!! Annanberg must be a terrorist! Whew--3 degrees of separation from terrorists!!!

Ayers literally bombed the Pentagon, Congress and Police Stations back in the 70s while planning to murder soldiers at Fort Dix New Jersey.
Are you kidding me Mr. Hancock?

Hancock, you are pathetic. Typical blinders on. Name for us please one thing that is untrue about the Ayers ad. You can't. Now name one thing in Obama's rebuttel ad that disputes anything in that Ayers ad. You can't because there isn't anything. If a Republican launched his senate bid from a white supremacist's house there would be Liberal outrage around the world and rightly so. He would never be elcted because of lack of Repunblican support and if he managed to get elected he would be ostracized in the senate. The difference between us is that the Republican party would immediete disown them while you make apologies for your guys instead. The best you can say about Ayers is that "he's a jerk"? How pathetic Liberals are. Obama already lied by acting like he barely passed this guy in the hall while we come to find out he knew him very well. I think you libs are very nervous and I think Ayers is going to destroy Obama's chances of being president. Deal with it. You make me sick when you downplay the magnitude of Liberal stupidity in having this scum teach our children. There is just plain something WRONG with Liberals that they do not see a problem with this. No wonder our country is in such trouble.

CORRECTION: Ayers HAS NOT "rehabilitated himself", but is UNREPENTANT.
[BUT THEY MAY NOT BE FIT TO PRINT, OF COURSE]
Posted by: Robeste | August 26, 2008 3:07 PM
You can't have it both ways. You can't tell me that you have an absolute right to own a gun because some day you may need it to protect you from the government. And then in the same breath call anyone who either verbally or physically attacks their government a terrorist. Apparently Ayers was exercising his right to protect himself from his government. Sounds like a republican to me.

Tom - or is it really Jay,
You are so disingenuous its amazing. Just because your guy consorts with known terrorists you want to call it "protecting himself from his government". You know its BS. This is why Obama will lose.
Posted by: Dave | August 26, 2008 3:23 PM
Now come on, Hagee only counters Rev. "God Damn America" which was said the sermon after 9/11 which happened to be the day ayers told the NYTimes he was unrepentant.

It upsets me that such a fool could anger me enough to write in this blog. Mr. Hancock, you are a worker bee in the construction of a lie. I wonder if you really believe the nonsense that spills from your pen, or if you think it's acceptible to sacrifice your integrity this way... for whatever reason you may assign to it.

Wow, Jay, you sure brought out the ditto-heads with this one!
I'm not sure what's scarier, the possibility that they'd engage in such questionable tactics to achieve their goals, or the possibility that they actually believe the stuff they're spouting.
Posted by: Hal Laurent | August 26, 2008 7:37 PM
Jay, I'm a fan, but you're way off base on this one.
You ought to review, objectively, the claims of the Swift Boat Veterans. Which, specifically, have been proven incorrect?
And you ought to consider whether Ayers is rehabilitated. He himself says he ought to have done more.
And you ought to consider the possibility (or perhaps probability, given the Obama campaign's apparent concerns) that Obama has significantly understated his relationship with the "rehabilitated" domestic terrorist.
You usually do much, much better.

It is Ayers horrible, unrepentant attitude and Obama's horrible, unwaivering judgment this is the issue ... and your refusal to rake Obama over the coals for this. Also, you should feature the link so people can make up their own minds. Just like you reported when the NY Times tried to smear McCain about an affair with a lobbyist. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m89m0pC_bpY

If Obama hadn't gone out of his way to try and minimize his relationship with Ayers, then it wouldn't be necessary to drag it out into the light of day. However, it IS necessary since he saw fit to lie about it. It also goes to his character and the type of people he keeps company with. I think that's a fair character trait to consider in a president.
We won't even get into the Rev. Wright as a person to admire and keep company with -- that would be off-topic.
You seem like too bright a guy to be his apologist. I'm glad someone has the money to put this issue before the public, since not everyone reads the blogs, nor will the media all have the cheek to report it.

Jay that Is why Sinclair has so many enemies In the media world.

Ask WGN radio in Chicago how they feel the Fairness Doctrine. Stanley Kurtz of NRO who is doing much of the detailed analysis on the Annenberg project papers (which were FINALLY released by the University of Illinois, which controls them) was on WGN for 2 hours last night and the Obama campaign put out a call to arms for his followers. The switchboard was inundated, but according to the various summaries I've seen of the program, many of the callers had no factual basis for their oppostion and were simply emotional about it. The comments section for the article as http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/08/obama_campaign_confronts_wgn_r.html back this up.

There have been several highly viewed anti-Obama videos produced by "Illumanati Pictures" running on YouTube. After viewing a compelling video questioning Obama's citizenship, I dug a little deeper... The illuminatipictures.com site was produced by Spyder Web Developers (SWD). SWD has a single static page, and I could find no other SWD customers. SWD is registered to Ric Swiner. Swiner has a profile on LinkedIn showing a history of anchor/account executive jobs with Sinclair Broadcast Group. Given the number of anti-Obama pieces, and the SWD connection, it wouldn't surprise me if Sinclair Broadcast Group were in a large way behind either Illuminati Pictures or Ric Swiner's Spyder Web Developers.
