BGE February gas prices stay (relatively) low

BGE's "commodity" natural-gas price is virtually unchanged in February, at 93.60 cents per therm. The January price was 93.64 cents. The February price is still higher than the level in February 2007, when warm East Coast weather caused a drop in demand. A year ago the price was 88.10 cents per therm. But 94 cents isn't bad. In February 2006, the price was $1.0116 per therm. In January 2006, it was $124.05, when shortages caused by Hurricane Katrina drove up the price. As usual, those who rejected offers of a fixed natural-gas price for this winter came out ahead. The offers I saw were for around $1 per therm. The price never got over 96 cents.

These prices are for the gas only; delivery charges are extra.

Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists. Such as Obama voted for Bush's energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, INCREASING STUDENT LOANS RATES AND FEES increasing hardship for families. Obama voted for one of Bush's top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America - even as President Bush obstructed all the top Democratic priorities. Obama voted with Bush to make it harder for ordinary people to hold big corporations accountable when they do things like sell toxic toys, poisonous pet food, or just plain rip you off. Obama was the Senate's biggest Democratic advocate of subsidies for liquid coal, even though liquid coal produces twice the global warming pollution of the crude oil it's meant to replace (Obama "backed off" this position after being pummeled by environmentalists for several months, but still voted for increased subsidies, albeit with conditions)

I may be incorrect in my assumption but your post seems to indicate that consumers are better off sticking with BGE rather than purshasing gas at a fixed price through a supplier. It almost comes across like you are happy to report that you were right (so far) about gas costs this winter. Many customers use gas all year long and gas is a key operating expense for many. As of this week April 2008 gas prices on the NYMEX were 42% higher than they were in April 2007 - can you look into your crystal ball and tell me that it is still best to stay away form contracts??

Why don't you research where the Sun purchases their gas and what rate they pay. I would be shocked if your company uses BGE.

The April BGE price is just under $1.09 per therm.

May contract is now at 10.098 which is 34% higher than the May 2007 close of 7.508.

Including the months that have already closed, 2008 is now priced 42% higher than where 2007 closed.

May BGE rate = $1.295

June is over $1.38.
Man, were you wrong!
