Verizon: FIOS customers top 1 million

Verizon reported second-quarter results today, including 1.1 million FIOS Internet customers at the end of the period. That'll give them about $1 billion a year in revenue. (Only half the 1.1 million customers are getting FIOS Internet and TV. The others get Internet only.) Not a bad start on the $20 billion-plus Verizon is estimated to be spending on rolling out FIOS. Keep digging trenches, Verizon.

I've historically found Verizon a tad difficult to deal with, as most really large decentralized corps are. But after 2 weeks with their FiOS service (tv + Internet) they have truly redeemed themselves in my eyes. The broadband Internet is consistently blazing fast ... the tv is crystal clear across all channels ... tech support is polite and knowledgable ... and they actually seem to have addressed problems in *other* providers' services. This looks, feels, and performs like state-of-the-art technology.
I'm glad to see their efforts rewarded with high subscription numbers.
They've really done FiOS right.

When will FIOS come to Baltimore City? I look forward to the day I can leave Comcast.

Nothing is more frustrating than all of Baltimore (surrounding counties) having FIOS and not in the city. With the amount of gentrification and money being spent downtown, you would think this would be a target market. I have been waiting years since they first announced FIOS and yet still no word on Baltimore City. I would even pay a premium to have it installed - but I can't even find out answers on why it's not being offered yet or when they may in the future. Does anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.

I'll second a request for any official info as to FiOS arriving in the city. Tomorrow isn't soon enough!
Is it Verizon that's the hold-up? Or I could certainly envision our esteemed local officials holding things up?

Someone from Verizon told me the city won't ever get it because city council has too many sweetheart deals with Comcast! I just emailed Mary Pat Clarke and asked he to explain this!
