Bankruptcy questions? Ask an expert
This economy is no joke. If you're straining financially due to debt caused by medical bills, a job loss or other dilemmas, perhaps you've considered filing for bankruptcy.
Got questions about how it works: what debt would be covered, or how your credit history might be affected?
Send them to Sun personal finance columnist Eileen Ambrose at eileen.ambrose@baltsun.com. She is hosting a live chat at noon Tuesday with Jeff Sirody, a bankruptcy lawyer in Pikesville.
Sirody will be available for the half-hour to answer any questions you have about the process, benefits and drawbacks.
UPDATE: And don't forget, Eileen will take questions on other personal finance topics as well.

I own my house, however my husband and I took out an equity line for our small business and used the house as collateral. I have $160k in debt on this loan. To add to the confusion, we are in the middle of a divorce. If he files bankruptcy for the business, will I lose my house?
Diane, thanks for your question! Tune in on Tuesday for the response. --- lfk.

i own 85% of my home and my cousin owns 15% and is stated as such on the title. He is filing for bankruptcy for the 2nd time. My question is can be harmed in anyway. Can a lien be put on my house or can his bankruptcy be attached to my name in anyway. he has already stopped paying his bills but is continuing to charge and buy things.

A huge judgment in a civil case is about to be filed against my husband. My assets were separated from his years ago due to an illness. Much of the property is in my name, but he has always helped pay the bills. He lives here too, you know. He has been told that he may not be able to file bankruptcy.
What happens if we just let the judgment sit in place. Most of his property is mortgaged without equity. Can he still help with household bills when his name isn't on the property?
