KFC issuing rainchecks for Oprah coupons
UPDATED: KFC said rainchecks for free grilled chicken will be mailed by June 19.
As a number of readers have noted, if you were able to print your free grilled chicken coupons from the Oprah Winfrey Show promotion, KFC will issue you a raincheck instead of giving you free chicken right away, according to a statement on the KFC Web site.
"We expected an enormous response, but we never expected anything like this," said CEO Roger Eaton.
Be sure to bring it to stores before May 19. The coupon can be redeemed at a later date, and it will also be valid for a free Pepsi drink.

Dear Oprah,
I was so excited to download my coupon and my families coupons. I have been out of work since last September and am not qualified for unemployment. I'm a real estate agent and have been in business since 1977.
I called my local KFC to verify this was legitimate. They told me this was a real coupon and could be used until the 19th of May. I actually sent this offering to all my friends and past clients, telling them I had made a call to the local store to verify.
I took my family in and what a dissappointment as we were offered a raincheck. I didn't have enough money to spring for dinner and we went home and fixed hotdogs. It was pretty much of an embarrassment and shock they wouldn't honor this coupon, but they did give us a raincheck, which we have to mail in. We didn't starve, but I think KFC should have anticipated this and made themselves ready. I know many people take advantage of these types of things, but I had trouble getting the coupons and spent all kinds of time getting them to print.
This was a total dissappointment, but thank you for your effort and big heart.
Sincerely,
Barbie

Usually, you can go to Giant or Safeway and pick up those roasted chickens by the hot bar for less than 6 bucks. The quality is probably a little better too.

I took my family to KFC with our coupons after a Little League ballgame. I was excited to have a night off from cooking, and it seemed so perfect on a busy weeknight with ballgames. Unfortunately, KFC refused to honor the coupon, offering to sell me the grilled dinners instead, an promising to mail me rainchecks. We were hungry, and I was tired: so I shelled out $16.99 to buy a bucket of the same chicken they were supposed to be giving away. It was dried out and the pieces were tiny. Overall experience: F.

I just went in tonight and attempted to redeem our coupons only to be greeted by a less than interested employee. I took my family there, thinking this would be worth trying because it was free, who doesn't love free stuff right?
We unloaded the kids, my pregnant wife and myself and went in to find out they were not honoring their commitment and they were issuing rain checks instead. The funny thing is they did have it available should we decide we wanted to buy it.. I've heard of rain checks when companies run out of something but never when they just don't feel like honoring their obligations.
We left and went to a different restaurant just as a matter of principal, I am highly disappointed and have lost all respect for anyone in upper level/executive management at KFC.. Roger, you should be ashamed... And I can't wait to see the fall out from this.. May not meet the legal requirements to qualify as bait and switch but I bet it's close.. :-)

Like the others, I was offered a rain check when I went in with a coupon. I have still not received the rain check coupon that is supposed to include a free pepsi. Woo Hoo a free Pepsi for gas and time wasted.
Isn't it considered bait and switch when an offer isnt honored and another item is offered for sale? I think KFC is a FRAUD!

I would like to know how long I have to wait before the rain check is filled. I submitted mine before the May 19 deadline.

Nothing but a terrible experience for my family. Was going to try KFC after a long ten year hiatus. We went & had to pay for some terrible chicken. We got the rain checks. Guess they haven't had time to send them or they will get "lost" in the mail.
Probably will not go back even if we get the coupons. BTW we don't watch Oprah either. Heard about the coupons thru the grapevine.

I printed 4 coupons and drove to my KFC with my friend to use 2 of them..waited 45minutes and said the heck with it, we will come another day. Two days later we were going to go and Oprah made the announcement about the rainchecks, so we went anyway, and even though they had the product, they would not honor the coupons. There were no customers in the place, so I can't imagine why we could not use our coupons...also they said they ran out of rainchecks...and we should fill out the back of our coupons with name, address, etc. Then the manager came out after the fact with a stack of rainchecks and said we should fill them out again and staple the coupons to them....what a hassle! We did as told and this was on May 10 and we still have not heard a peep from KFC!

i had printed 4, as allowed, was told to park and enter store to fill out raincheck. got a coupon today post dated not to be used till august, and only 1 coupon. how is this not some kind of bait and switch, or false advertising. something is wrong with this plan. promised one thing given another!

I also filled out a raincheck form and handed in my 4 coupons. I was told we would get rain checks for FOUR dinners.
I finally get the rain check last week, I can't use it until AUGUST and its good for only ONE dinner.
Thank you for keeping your word KFC, nice...really nice.

FYI - I believe the "fine print" stated that each household was allowed up to 4 coupons but..... only one per person. If you used the same name on all four raincheck forms, then they fulfilled their obligation. For the record I received all 4 by mail about two weeks ago and they're good from today through Friday of this week. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait. I haven't been to a KFC for over ten years. Nothing personal. I rarely if ever eat at fast food restaurants.
Bob, you may have hit upon the answer ... a lot of people won't be happy about it, though. --- lfk.
