Verizon FiOS Offered to Bel Air & Annapolis Residents

verizonfios.jpg

During all that cable talk these last couple weeks, Reader Sean asked a question about the competition:

Does anyone know if Fios will be available in Harford County anytime soon?

We just got an answer for you Sean and any other Harford Countians out there. Verizon spokesman Sandra Arnette says:

Unfortunately, I can't provide a specific timeframe when Verizon will offer our FiOS services in Abingdon.  But, we are in the process of negotiating a franchise agreement with Harford County government.

Earlier last month, Verizon won unanimous approval from the Town of Bel Air Commissioners to offer FiOS TV to Bel Air residents.

The company planned to begin offering FiOS Internet and FiOS TV in parts of Bel Air in the latter part of October. Consumers in the Town of Bel Air can check online at www.verizon.com/fios for more information or to request that Verizon contact them when FiOS TV and FiOS Internet services become available.  Customers also can call their local Verizon sales office or 888-GET FiOS (888-438-3467).

And for Reader Mike who wondered:

Also please let me know when FIOS comes to our street in Annapolis as that will be the last day for Comcast in my house!

I don't know where you live Mike, but Sandy Arnette says that FiOS is offered in Annapolis. You may want to check again.

Anyone in Bel Air sign up yet?

UPDATE: The Harford County Council will be voting on a Verizon cable franchise on Feb. 17. --- lfk.

What is the period of time from laying of fiberoptic to startup? A few months ago they did the wiring, set the boxes and yet now over 3 months later still no notification. I am in Glen Burnie 21060.

DD: Tim, if you send consuming.interests(at)baltsun.com your address, I'll get an answer for you from Verizon. Or you can e-mail me directly.

Any idea of FIOS timing for the 21078 Bulle Rock community in/outside Havre de Grace in Hartford County? I've been told that fiber was laid along with all the utilities in this new development, which should make it an easy target. Plus it's a dense development. Having been a subscriber before my move here, I'm anxiously awaiting FIOS (I'm on the notify list) but have heard & found nothing on the subject.

DD: Susan, I'm not sure about Havre de Grace, but we recently received a similar question from a Glen Burnie resident. Verizon told him FiOS would be available to him in about a month. But I'll try to shoot them an e-mail and ask for sure.

Comcast is probably the most hated company in America.

I can't wait to ditch them for Verizon.

DD: Funny. You'd be surprised how often I get this exact same message from other readers about Verizon, Sears, Home Depot... you name it. Makes you wonder what corporate types think when they see this kind of sentiment in the blogosphere about their company.

that is wonderful the folks in Bel Air
lovely for those in Annapolis

what about Baltimore CITY?

:-|

DD: Sorry Juan. Verizon has already told us there are no plans yet to bring FiOS to the city. No timetable set.

Not eveyone in Annapolis has FiOS. Does anyone know when this will change? People that live 5 minutes away from me has it but our community doesn't.

Ed. note: I'll try and find out for you. Have you checked Verizon's Website? - Gus

I live in Bel Air near Conowingo Road. Any further updates on when we will receive Fios in our area? I have comcast and I am dying to ditch it big time. I am looking forward switching over to Verizon Fios.

Mildred, I thought FiOS was already available in Bel Air, but not necessarily elsewhere in Harford County? If you're outside the city limits, the Harford County Council will be voting on a Verizon cable franchise on Feb. 17. -- lfk.

We live in Belcamp, MD, which is basically in harford county. Could you let us know if they are planning FIOS in our community. I don't think Verizon even offers dsl and we are stuck with Comcast or no internet.

Rahul, the Harford County Council will be voting on a Verizon cable franchise on Feb. 17. If approved, Verizon says it will start installing the lines. --- lfk.

I am a FiOS Salesperson at the Verizon Wireless in Bel Air. I've seen customers from all over Maryland, including Bel Air, Glen Burnie, Owings Mills, Whitemarsh, Nottingham, Baltimore City, Aberdeen, etc. One of the best things to do is for you and your neighbors to contact Verizon directly and tell them "WE WANT FIOS!". It's no surprise that a company would be much more willing to invest money into a neighborhood where the residents are promising to order their product versus a neighborhood that doesn't subscribe to their products or doesn't show interest. So get the word out, everyone! And when you're lucky enough to get the amazing speed, sound, and picture of FiOS in your neighborhood, I'd be glad to assist you in completing your order. :) Face-to-face, on paper; not telemarketing, not pushing, not cramming. Just trying to help you out! :)

Thanks, Caitlyn! --- lfk.

More of the same: After failed attempts to get an answer from Verizon, can u get an answer on when FIOS is coming out to Jacksonville (21131)? I'm thinking it's gonna be a while given the more remote location.

Eric, I don't know specifically when it will arrive in Jacksonville/Northern Baltimore County, but here's a link to a Verizon FiOS construction schedule, which gets updated monthly. --- lfk.
