Cheap tip: Spa Week, Oct. 13 to 19

Swedish massageHere's a bonus cheap tip this week: during Spa Week, enjoy $50 spa treatments at 30 spas and salons around Maryland (13 in Baltimore or the five surrounding counties).

Register for the site, and indulge in discounted facials, massages or mani-pedis from Monday (Oct. 13) through Sunday (Oct. 19).

You better book early, though. The event started today and I'm sure Spa Week appointments fill up fast.

I already know which treatments I'll be trying ...

none of them.

For a minute, I was very tempted by the promise of a discount, but these services are not a regularly scheduled part of my beauty regimen, so spending money just to try something out won't save me much dough.

Also, none of the spa Web sites list their original prices for these treatments, so it's not clear how much of a deal this even is.

Anyone have a better sense on what the going rate for a massage is in the Baltimore-Washington region? Please weigh in.

Last time I checked, a 45-minute massage was around $75-$90, and a 60-minute massage around $90-$125. For some people with a lot of stress or issues of joint or muscle pain, it can be well worth it, though.

Thanks! Definitely, this seems like it could be a bargain, then --- especially if someone has massages regularly, or already planned to treat themselves (or someone else). --- lfk

For all the spa treatments I booked for spa week, I checked the spa's Web site first to find regular prices. I am saving at least $50, in some cases more, on all the treatments I picked.

Even though some of the things I picked are not part of my normal beauty routine, it seems like with this deal, now is a great time to splurge on stuff I normally would think is too expensive. Does that still make it a deal?

It all depends ... I'd say if you like to get skin treatments and only get them when there's a discount, then it seems worth it. And if you've wanted to try them out, going during Spa Week seems to be the right time. But if you're doing it only because there's a discount, suddenly $50 seems like too much. --- lfk

In theory that sounds cool, but it's recession time! i've actually started doing my own manicures and pedicures...i don't have the cash to spend on lavish xtras!

I hear you, Jill ... especially because it's starting to feel more like boot weather than peep-toes. --- lfk
