More free stuff: cab rides during the holiday weekend

Planning to celebrate our nation's independence by imbibing at a Baltimore bar?

Do everyone a favor and program this number into your cell phone first: 1-877-963-TAXI.

AAA, Yellow Cab and the Maryland Department of Transportation have partnered for this year's Tipsy?Taxi! program, giving revelers a free cab ride home from bars this weekend ... up to $50. If you live farther away, you'll have to cover the remaining cost.

Anyone 21 years or older can take advantage of the program for a ride home ONLY ... they won't take you to another party. Don't try to pretend you live at Mother's Federal Hill Grille!

The free rides are available from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, July 3; from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday, July 4; and 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. July 5July 6.

Remember: Tipsy?Taxi! ... it's the only number you want to drunk dial.

What about July 5?
Mitch! I spotted this error earlier --- but repeated it anyway. Thanks for pointing it out --- I'll fix it in the text. --- lfk

I actually used this last year from Little Italy to ...Locust Point. The meter was around $50 when we got home. I felt for the driver who was then stuck in the traffic for people leaving Fort McHenry so I gave him around $20. All in all a pretty good deal. Thinking back on it, it did take a while for the cab to arrive but it wasn't that big a deal

So we called the Tipsy Taxi last night and the driver hollered at us by the name I gave the dispatcher. He asked us if we had any cash, I said we don't need any cash, its tipsy taxi, see it says right on your screen "tipsy taxi hire" - you will get paid, and he said. No there aren't no free rides, what do you think this is? I said its Tipsy Taxi, they hired you to drive people like us home, and you will get paid. Then he said yea, I will with cash. I was like no, I don't think so you get paid by the Maryland Dept of Transportation..., he said no he gets paid in cash. Thats when we left. Freaky guy. Proly wants to get paid twice - once by the MDT and second by a drunk rider who wont know the difference. Guy was a freak man.
Warning: Make sure your driver knows he was hired by tipsy taxi, BEFORE you get in.

Pigtown, I'm going to forward your note to the MDOT folks and see what they have to say about it ... --- lfk
