A lighting surprise

(Nikon D3, Nikon 80-200mm @ 135mm, 1/1000 @ f/2.8, ISO 800)

This is from Sheila Dixon's mayoral inaugural last week. These young men were performing before the big shebang, much better lit than I thought, which is why I have such a high shutter speed set. I could've easily dropped down to ISO 200. Just the same, the file is ultrasharp with amazing tonal range. The crisp contrast is a refreshing change from what I normally have to work with. And this is an unaltered image. Nothing has been done to it but change the size.

Book review tomorrow, and more on the D3, which I miss dearly.

Nice grab... do you shoot in RAW and do any sort of white balancing?

I shoot JPEG Fine 99 percent of the time. The other amazing thing about the D3 is the Auto color balance. It was the only setting I used with the D3. Truly an amazing camera that helps make images possible without the angst that develops with others.
